Dahlia Mask
“Dhalia” - Woodfired Ceramic - Approx. 8 x 6 x 4 in.
Part of a collection of abstract masks to be fired in a large wood-fire kiln, this mask is a reflection of a quote that many inaccurately attribute to Buddha;
“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.” -Jack Kornfield, Buddha’s Little Instruction Book
Though it may not have been uttered by the Buddha himself, it still resonates with many as a call to sit and contemplate the world around us.
If a person can fixate on something as simple, and complex, as a flower and understand how amazing it is that it exists at all… then how does that change your perception of everything else around you? How does that change your perception of yourself?
How does it feel when you put the mask on with only a single hole to peer through? How does it feel when you take it off? Looking at the flower again and seeing how the light may change your perspective serves as a reminder to revisit this point of contemplation as times change.
