Crab King

“Crab King” - Slip Cast Bisque, metal and fabric - Approx. 20 x 15 x 5 cm

Aesop’s fables tell us of a crab who wasn’t content with his lot…. so he crawled to a meadow and was eaten up by a fox. Perhaps this crab has a different tale since he is, after all, wearing the crown of a king. Ultimately he went the way we all do and left behind his shell and treasures to be buried in a small seaside tomb.
Inspired by aesop’s fables and a trip to the beach where, while looking through shells, I found the limp remains of a small crab who’s lifeless body reminded me of the ball jointed dolls by Yoshida.
